My favorite album: "In Rainbows"

Radiohead are an English alternative rock band that formed in Oxfordshire in 1986. The band is composed of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano, electronics), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, other instruments), Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Greenwood (bass guitar, synthesisers) and Phil Selway (drums, percussion).

Radiohead released their first single, "Creep", in 1992, and their debut album, Pablo Honey, in 1993. Though initially unsuccessful, "Creep" was a worldwide hit when reissued a year later. Radiohead's popularity in the United Kingdom increased with the release of their second album, The Bends (1995). The band's textured guitar atmospheres and Yorke's falsetto singing were warmly received by critics and fans. With the release of OK Computer (1997), Radiohead were propelled to greater fame worldwide. Featuring an expansive sound and themes of modern alienation, OK Computer has often been acclaimed as a landmark record of the 1990s.

The release of Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001) saw the peak of Radiohead's popularity, although the albums divided critical opinion. This period saw a change in Radiohead's musical style, with their incorporation of experimental electronic music, Krautrock and jazz influences. Hail to the Thief (2003), Radiohead's sixth album, blended styles from throughout the band's career, mixing guitar-driven rock, electronic influences and contemporary lyrics. Radiohead subsequently left their record label, EMI and released their seventh album, In Rainbows (2007), through their own website as a digital download for which customers selected their own price.

In Rainbows is the seventh album of Radiohead. It was first released on 10 October 2007 as a digital download, followed by a self-released "discbox" with a second CD, two vinyl records, artwork and lyric booklets on 3 December 2007. The album was released as a standard CD in Japan on 26 December 2007, in Australia on 29 December 2007 and in North America on 1 January 2008. Elsewhere around the world, it was released on 31 December 2007. The first single, "Jigsaw Falling into Place", will follow on 14 January 2008 in the United Kingdom.

The band had worked on In Rainbows for more than two years, beginning in early 2005. In between recording, the band toured Europe and North America for three months in mid-2006. The announcement of details about the album led to media attention centered around the band's decision to first release the album online as a digital download for which fans could decide the price they paid.

The album release marks the band's first album after the end of their contract with EMI and the end of the longest gap between studio albums in their career. Upon its initial release as a digital download, the album earned widespread critical acclaim. Initially, the commercial success was unclear as the band declined to publicize their Internet sales numbers, however, upon its retail release In Rainbows entered the UK Album Chart and the United World Chart at number one and also topped the US Billboard 200 chart.
